Sony seems to be heading for the home run in Q3 of this year and they dare give the Android big boys like Samsung and HTC a run for their money. On the heels of the remarkable 5.0 inch Xperia Z, Sony is has anmonced the gargantuan 6.4inch Xperia Z Ultra slightly bigger than the Samsung Mega 6.3. Im guessing This phone is Sony's response to the Samsung Galaxy Note line and its official debut in the phablet market.
As we can expect with all things Sony these days, the Xperia Z ultra is water resistant and has a lot of high points in its spec sheet, besides the 6.4inch 1080p display, the phone is incredibly thin at 6.5mm but it does pack some mouth watering features despite its slim build. Sony was able to fit a 3000mAh battery in that thin frame to power this giant phone. It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2ghz and 2GB of RAM. It has 16gb of internal memory which I personally believe is too small but Sony added microSD slot to compensate for that. The 8 megapixels rear shooter isnt the best out there but its at least manageable. Most people would think its silly to hold a phone almost as big as a coffee table to the face to recieve calls but the smart folks at sony already thought of that and included a Bluetooth dongle that can be used for this purpose.
For a phone that challenges the likes of the Samsung galaxy Note, it lacks a lot of the capabalitlies that the note range has, besides the "stamina mode" which turns of the display and saves battery when thw phone isnt being used, the most outstanding feature is that it has handwriting recognition and its compatible with any capacitive stylus and allows you to take notes with any pen or pencil with a 1mm tip. I'm wondering if that wouldnt leave the screen with a lot of scratches, even with this fearure it doesnt even come close to what the S-pen can do.
Overall, looking at the specs I think its a great device. What do you think, do you think Sony has hit it out of the park with this one or its an obvious miss? at what point do you think manufacturers should draw the line when it comes to the sizes of smartphones and phablets?
