Your Tweets Can Land You In Jail

Twitter fights have become almost an everyday thing on "naija Twitter". Its not uncommon to see two or more people call themselves out and describe each other with such unflattering words that would make even a heartless drone cringe. Some countries have started holding people accountable for their tweets and it seems Nigeria is following in their footsteps with the recent rumours that the actress Tonto Dikeh might face jail time for a picture of her holding a wrap of weed she uploaded on twitter. I hope She drops the soap...ah i digress.  Legislators in Grenada have gone a step further, they have passed a bill into law that holds people liable for their tweets, in Grenada it has become a criminal offence to insult somebody or organization on any social network especially Twitter. Grenada's legal affairs Minister Mr Elvis Nimrod told the AP: "we have problems when some use the technology to engage in mischief" . If you insult someone's name or charac

Galaxy Note 3 Might Get flexible Screen

Flexible displays have been the stuff of legends for over a year and a half now. The idea seemed a little far fetched when Samsung and LG announced they were researching the technology.  LG recently released a flexible TV last month and this has further proved that their research has not been an effort in futility. With this development the rumours about Samsung releasing a flexible display just continues to pile up. A South korean news has reported that we might see this flexible display on the upcoming Galaxy Note 3 . Obviously this is still a rumour and the possibility of samsung releasing such a device is not certain. However Samsung has always been at the forefront of groundbreaking innovations in the industry and if there's any manufacturer with the ability to pull this off they are at the top of that list. If they eventually release a device like this it would go a long way to solidify their stance in the market. For new developments about this story and o

WILL JUSTIN BIEBER'S #BELIEBERS UNITE FOR NOKIA'S LUMIA EOS?

Expectations are high for the new Nokia 41 MegaPixel LUMIA EOS phone, Nokia has teased us day in day out about this device and they have finally set  an event for July 11th to launch the device in New York. The phone should be the reincarnation of Nokia's 808 PUREVIEW released last year on the symbian OS. Nokia has since moved on from the Symbian OS and has chosen The Windows Phone platform as their new home. The WP8 platform has not been able to find a solid footing in the mobile phone industry and it threatens to drag Nokia down with it. However Nokia doesn't plan to go down without a fight. They have since employed various marketing tactics to stay afloat. They sent out a very suggestive tweet saying, "Lots of  #Beliebers zooming into our webcast on july 11th?". Now i'm not a professor of linguistics but its practically obvious what nokia is insinuating here, some sources speculate that Nokia has enrolled Justin Bieber to be a brand ambassador of some sort for

INFINIX RACE EAGLE: FULL REVIEW

I've heard a lot about the Infinix Race Eagle but i did not take much interest in it because its a subsidiary of a manufacturer ( Alcatel )   that has a bad reputation in Telecommunications industry . However in the past few months the Infinix brand  has began to gain traction in the Nigerian smartphone market as they have been striking deals with various service providers to make their smartphone available to more people around the country. Infinix is being recognized as one of the best budget smartphones in the market today with a few competitors such as the Tecno Phantom A1 which I did a full review on here .I decided to do a full review on this device too because it has definitely caught a lot of people's attention. OVERVIEW Straight out of the box the infinity Race Eagle is an unassuming phone, its a slightly hefty device with a 5.0" capacitive touch-screen across the diagonal. The design of the phone is not so impressive however Infinix has managed to ke

TECNO PHANTOM A1: FULL REVIEW

I recently walked into a store at the computer village in Ikeja,Lagos and i saw people huddled around a manufacturers cubicle testing out a new phone, i was amazed to find out it was a Tecno phone that drew such a crowd, not just any Tecno "Kpalasa" phone but a nice looking white device that could be easily mistaken for a samsung galaxy device or even HTC. The Tecno Phantom A1 was released a few weeks ago, it received rave reviews and was being compared to the Samsung Galaxy S3 its critically acclaimed as the best budget Smartphone in the market. I've decided to do this review now as the buzz around the phone has reduced and a review can be done in a cooler atmosphere and without sentiments. OVERVIEW Starting with the packaging, Tecno has really improved with the packaging and presentation of this phone. it comes in a glossy box with all the spec details of the phone printed on the back. Out of the box, it comes with a set of earphones, usb cab

Dual-Booting Samsung ATIV Q TABLET

Samsung is obviously not tired of blazing trails and setting benchmarks in the Mobile Technology industry, their latest effort The Samsung ATIV Q is a dream come true for many people, we at Technerd are absolutely overwhelmed by this device. The ATIV Q Tablet is a dual -booting device that allows users to boot Android OS an d Windows 8 OS seamlessly on one device. Many Manufactures have been treating dual-booting devices like a Taboo but Samsung has dared to go where others wouldn't with the ATIV Q Tablet. I'm guessing most visitors of this blog are conversant with dual-booting devices but if you are a newbie I would take a few moments to explain. To geeks, Dual-booting is like having an ice cream cone with two flavours vanilla and chocolate unlike having to chose between vanilla or chocolate. Gone are the days when you have to forego a device because of the platform it operates on. The Samsung ATIV Q allows you to run both Android and Windows 8 without having to reboot t

Nigerian wears Google Glass to NBA Draft pick

Oladipo at the 2013 NBA Draft pick Nigerian Victor Oladipo who was picked by the Orlando Magic team based in Orlando, Florida during the NBA draft pick wore his Google glass to the NBA event. Orlando magic has had such notable players such as Shaquille Oneal, Rashard Lewis, Tracy McGrady and a host of others. The Indiana University graduate added color to the often boring event with his little stunt.Oladipo  majored in Sports Communications so he's obviously well informed when it comes to sports image branding this might just be an act to grab the headlines and if it is, its working. Wearable computing is making its way into our everyday lives and its increasingly popular amongst sports and fitness enthusiast, now its making its way into the NBA. At the moment of this report its unclear if Victor Oladipo is a glassware enthusiast or this is just a subliminal advert.....you never can tell these days. Google opens Streetview trekker to the public.

Google is giving just about anyone who's interested and has the right qualifications  a chance to use their trekker equipment used for mapping/taking pictures of places where satellite imagery cant go such as insides of  buildings and some extreme scenery such as mountain ranges, forest reserves, coral reefs, etc. If you love the outdoors, and you love technology this is your opportunity to get up-close and personal with the Google equipment. It would be nice if relevant Tourism agencies can use this device to show the world the beautiful places in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. we are in the position to change the perspective in which people see our beloved country, the Nigerian Ministry of tourism should seize this opportunity to show what Nigeria has to offer in terms of tourism, the could use this Trekker to show places such as the Obudu Cattle Ranch, the Ikogosi Warm Springs, The Yankari Games Reserves, etc. The Trekker equipment is basically a backpack equi

Android 4.3 coming to Google Edition phones in July

One reason why most people love Google edition phones besides the lack of carrier and manufacturers bloatware is the fact that Google pushes updates to them in lightning speed. The Google edition Galaxy S4 and HTC one were just launched last month and if you are still not sure whether you want it or not, the fact that Google would be releasing Android 4.3 update in a matter of weeks and it would be available for these two phones first could be a deciding factor. We have obtained a screen shot of a Galaxy S4 running android 4.3. With all details of the build. Picture credit: SAMMOBILE TNG...

Sony Xperia Z ULTRA phablet or coffee table?

Sony seems to be heading for the home run in Q3 of this year and they dare give the Android big boys like Samsung and HTC a run for their money. On the heels of the remarkable 5.0 inch Xperia Z, Sony is has anmonced  the gargantuan 6.4inch Xperia Z Ultra slightly bigger than the Samsung Mega 6.3. Im guessing This phone is Sony's response to the Samsung Galaxy Note line and its official debut in the phablet market. As we can expect with all things Sony these days, the Xperia Z ultra is water resistant and has a lot of high points in its spec sheet, besides the 6.4inch 1080p display, the phone is incredibly thin at 6.5mm but it does pack some mouth watering features despite its slim build. Sony was able to fit a 3000mAh battery in that thin frame to power this giant phone. It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2ghz and 2GB of RAM. It has 16gb of internal memory which I personally believe is too small but Sony added microSD slot to compensate for that. The 8 megapixe

Sony Launches SmartWatch 2

Sony's foray into wearable tech started with their iconic Sony Walkman   series of the 90's, they plan to revisit that golden era and today launched their new smartwatch, the SmartWatch2, The smartwatch is a unibody aluminium watch that sports Sony's design language, it shares features with other sony Xperia Z brand of products.Sony doesnt want the watch to be a geek only affair but more of a fashion statement, so the watch will be available with a variety of strap styles and colors. The watch can serve as an alternate screen for your phone when they are synched together. It would let you control the camera shutter, take phone calls and have a quick glance at maps without having to pull your phone out of your pocket or pouch while driving or on the move. The watch comes loaded with android and NFC capabilities which enables pairing with other android devices. It is also waterproof  with an IP57 rating. At 1.6inches ,The watch comes with a bigger display than its pre

Opon-imo tablet: A Good Pill to swallow

I love my country Nigeria, we haven't always made headlines for the right reasons but Nigerians are actually amongst the most talented people in the world. We excel in every field and since we have decided to dip our hands into the mobile computing field we would definitely leave our mark in this industry. I'm proud to introduce you to the "Opon-Imo" Tablet which was designed in Nigeria for Nigerian Secondary School students to aid them in preparing for their school leaving certificate examinations. "Opon-imo"   is a Yoruba word which literally means " tablet of knowledge " in English. It is an android tablet that comes preloaded with the basic secondary school curriculum textbooks and other learning aids. The project was funded by the Osun State Government under the leadership of Governor Rauf Aregbesola. amidst several claims that the project is a façade to enrich certain people in certain coffers, however 150,000 units of the tablets ha

iPhone 5s Concept Or Rumours in Pictures.

It has been Apple's tradition to release a follow up to their flagship smartphones  every fall(August/September), as a result of this there will always be an endless flood of  iPhone 5s concept and rumours from many enthusiasts some noteworthy and others just bizarre, some people have suggested it would come with a finger print scanner, this is not impossible and not the 1st time biometric rumuors will be attached to the iphone, same was said about the iphone 5 but we are not sure apple wants to go down that road yet, well I guess we will have to wait and see. However the latest development on the iPhone 5s  has been reported by Macrumours. Mac rumours revealed that the new Apple flagship device is said to have some spec bump setting it aside from its predecessors. The most noticeable is a bigger battery, though still not removeable, apple has added a bigger 5.92whr battery compared to the 5.42whr battery present in the iPhone 5 .  Its also rumoured to come with a dual L

Instagram rolls out Video Today

Have you been itching to not only upload videos to social network sites but also be able to edit them with filters? I think Christmas just came early because today Instagram's CEO Kevin Systrom played the noble Saint Claus and officially launched their video service, simply named " video on instagram ".The new feature which is being rolled out to all ios and android users today would allow users to share up to 15 seconds of video which can be edited with a range of 15 filters which gives it an edge over other video sharing social networks. Instagram has seen competition from various video sharing social networking applications like path, keek and vine, which aim to fill the void that the lack of video capabalities on instagram has created. With 16 billion photos from over 130million users and last year's $1billion investment from Mark Zuckerberg's facebook they have a lot to fight for and are not willing to play second fiddle to any one yet. Samsung GALAXY owners to get JayZ's next album free

If you own a Samsung Galaxy and are a Jay-Z fan, then you will probably be happy to hear that Samsung is giving away one million copies of “Magna Carta Holy Grail” to owners of its flagship smartphone 72 hours before the album’s official debut on July 4.Jay-Z hinted at the endorsement deal on Sunday when he appeared in a tv commercial during Game 5 of the NBA finals, along with Pharrell Williams and producer Rick Rubin. The tagline was “The Next Big Thing”–a teaser for the early release of “Magna Carta Holy Grail” on Galaxy devices.Samsung bought 1 million copies of the album, which is scheduled for release on July 4, to give to Samsung Galaxy owners. The Wall Street Journal reports that Samsung paid $5 each for the albums–reaping Jay-Z $5 million for “Magna Carta Holy Grail” before it even goes on sale. The deal is notable for a couple of reasons. First, it could help Samsung further polish its image in the U.S. as it continues its heated rivalry with Apple. Though Samsung is the top s

iOS 7: PICTURES AND FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Apple announced iOS 7 at WWDC this week. Today we bring you an in depth Review of the OS. Many iPhone and iOS users have been clamouring for a fresh breath of air in the look and feel of iOS. iOS 7 is already bein touted by apple as the biggest break away from the norm since it announced its first generation iPhone back in 2007. Personally I think the comparison is a little far fetched because most of the functions are already available on other platforms like windows phone and Android. I have included snapshots of the iOS 7 key functions. However let's take a look at the goodies....... LOCK SCREEN: the new lock screen takes the personality of your wallpaper. Its not a far departure from what's available on android jellybean. HOME SCREEN This is the new home screen in iOS 7. Apple redesigned all of its icons for this major update, including Mail, Settings, iTunes, Game Center, Photos, Safari and more. NOTIFICATION CENTER The new Notification Center in iOS 7, activated by

WHY WE NEED ANOTHER TECH BLOG

HI EVERYONE Before you round up that list of reasons why we don't need another tech blog,.....bla bla bla, "whatever I want to know I can find on nairaland", I would like you to consider  this few points. As we know, technology is an ever evolving landscape, every 18months or so, there is always a groundbreaking change in the industry and I believe most people, Nigerians especially are relatively out of the loop in tech evolution. If u a tech afficionado like I am, you will find that only a select few of Nigerian/African tech blogs report on these ever changing tech trends, I have personally have to get my fix from international sites/blogs. So why won't it be nice if we had a tech blog that only gives accurate reports on every thing tech from Nano robots to mars rovers to tech reviews to a whole lot of übercool stuff..... How does that sound like......yeah its exactly what you are thinking, this is tech porn that you can't get enough of. TechNerdNG will cov
