If you have been following this blog, you will notice that we have been posting a series of reviews on various fast selling budget smartphones in Nigeria. This has been done in an effort to help you our readers choose the best smartphone for you according to your needs and your budget. The series has been cross platform and has covered a wide range of devices between the prices of 25,000-35,000. We have decided to do a concise comparison between all these devices and hopefully give you a general view of this phones and make it easier for you to choose the best one for you
The Infinix Race Eagle is a "Mid Range" device from french Manufacturer Infinix. If you have read the full review I did about this device, you will know this device received a very low rating (5/10), this is because the phone failed to live up to expectation. The Infinix Race Eagle had a lot of issues that needed to be sorted out before they brought it to the market, for instance the battery was really bad, we could barely get 5 hrs of usage from it and we found it hard to charge, the screen resolution was not as good as its competitors and the screen had no protective cover, that is if you drop the phone, the screen would shatter into a billion pieces. As far as I'm concerned the only thing this phone had going for it was the price and the fact that you get free 6months Data connection if you order it from MTN.
The TECNO Phantom A is one phone that really impressed us coming from a manufacturer known for making cheap "chinko" dual-sim phones. This phone is one of the fastest selling phones in the Nigerian Smartphone market at the moment it delivers on the spec sheet and its even giving some high end phones a run for their money. The phone has a lot of feature packed into its slim 9.1mm build, it has an 8.0MP main camera, a 1080p display and it's powered by a 1.0Ghz dual-core Snapdragon processor and a 2100mAh of battery and runs on the stock version of Android 4.1.1 jellybean. Tecno also threw in some freebies like a powerbank that's able to charge the phone or any phone with a micr USB jack and a free leather flip pouch. The main drawback with this phone was that we are not sure if Tecno would deliver any after sales upgrade support for this phone because its an awesome device and Tecno also went too easy in terms of the User Experience, besides the PalmChat app there was basically no innovation from Tecno on this device it was basically like a stock Android phone.
LG OPTIMUS L5 II
The LG Optimus L5 II is the successor to the Optimus L5. This is device comes with a 4.0" capacitive touch display that provides really crisp images only rivaled by the Lumia 520, it is powered by a 1Ghz single-core processor which coupled with the 512MB of RAM proves to be the phone's major undoing. The phone lags unbearably and even simple task like swiping from one home screen page to the other can become a chore. To be fair the phone was designed with the budget community in mind and its one of the only phones in this category that supports NFC, the battery life provided by the 1700mAh battery lasts for about 10 Hrs without needing to be recharged and this phone earns major cool points for the Use interface design and its build quality. The fake brushed-metal casing makes it look like a very premium device but once it's handled it cannot hide its plasticky build, in terms of dimensions the curved edges helps you keep a vice-like grip on the phone and the phone is a bit hefty in terms of weight
NOKIA LUMIA 520
This is one of the devices that really impressed us in this category. If you are into numbers you might underestimate this phone but i can assure you that in terms of performance, features, OS, e.t.c. this phone beats a lot of phones in this category hands down, my only qualms with this phone is the 4.0" touch Screen and the fact that it has no NFC support or wireless charging like the rest of the Lumia brand but in terms of build quality its an awesome phone, it has a monoblock design with a removable back cover that can be replaced with a choice of 5 different colors and removable 1430 mAh battery. It is powered a dual-core 1.0 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, the same processor found in other high-end phones like the Lumia 720. The most endearing features of this phone are the Here Maps and Here Drive, you can download the maps of entire cities, states and country to your MicroSD card so you never have to get lost when you go on a road trip to places where there is no data connection or you can save your data usage when you are navigating through your home city/town because you already have the map on your memory card.
